TURGOR
Turgor (from the late Latin "turgor" - swelling, filling) is the inner hydrostatic pressure in a living cell, causing tension of the cell envelope (cell wall, cell membrane). Turgor of animal cells is usually not very high. Turgor pressure in plant cells maintains leaves and stems (in herbs) in the vertical position, imparts firmness and steadiness to plants. Decreasing of turgor accompanies the processes of aging and decline of cells.
