MOLECULAR OXYGEN
Free oxygen is present in the atmosphere. It consists of binary molecules and is symbolized as O2. Respiration process, the energy source for living organisms, is carried out owing to oxygen. The essence of the respiration process is in combination of carbon and hydrogen of organic substances with the oxygen of the air. In plants feeding proceeds parallel to respiration: under the influence of sun rays a plant synthesizes necessary organic matters of carbon dioxide and water, while free oxygen returns into the atmosphere. Oxygen takes part in various oxidation processes.
