CELL WALL
Cell wall (plasmodesma, cytoderm) is sited outside the plasma membrane and covers the whole cell. It imparts stiffness to a cell, shapes it, and protects it against injury from osmotic and mechanical attacks. It consists of many layers. Long chains of cellulose fibres form each layer. Only plant cells have cell walls.
