SOMATIC CELL
The cells of the soma (body) of an organism differ from gametal cells and do not participate in the sexual process. In a certain sense they are necessary only to provide survival and reproduction of gametal cells.
In a polyploid organism most of somatic cells contain polyploid number of chromosomes. For example, diploid organisms possess sets of 2n chromosomes. Somatic cells multiply through mitosis.
