GAMETAL CELL
Gametal, or reproductive, cells (gametes) are cells of an organism, which contain haploid (that is, onefold) set of chromosomes. Female gametes are eggs, or ovicells; male gametes are spermatozoids, or sperm cells. Gametal cells provide transfer of genetical information from parents to their descendants. In syngamy of gametes, which determine various sex, diploid zygote is formed. The zygote develops into a new individual, or sometimes into a group of individuals, with hereditary characters of both parents. Distribution of characteristics among descendants is governed by the Mendel Law.
