NERVE CELLS
Nerve cells, or, neurons, consist of a neurosome and outgrowths. Relatively short outgrowths are called dendrites and the long one is called axon. Neurons are main structural and functional units of the nervous system. Neurons conduct nervous impulses from receptor cells to the nervous system (sensory neurons), from the nervous system to operating organs (motor neurons), connect several other nerve cells with one another (interneurones). Neurones interast among one another and with cells of operating organs by means of synapses.
