KINETOCHORE
Kinetochore is a multi-layer structure, which develops in the course of cell division. Kinetochore is formed in the centromeric side of a chromosome, where microtubules or the mitotic spindle are attached. Kinetochores appear pairwise, in the late prophase of mitosis, on the two opposite sides of centromere, one on each of the sister chromatids. Kinetochores are oriented in the opposite directions. A certain specific sequence of DNA is thought to define the site of the formation of a kinetochore on a chromosome.
