HAPLOID

Haploid (from the Greek haplóos - single, plain, and eidos - kind) is an organism, a cell or a nucleus with a onefold (haploid) set of chromosomes. Haploid set of chromosomes contains one copy of each autosome (all chromosomes, except sex chromosomes) and one sex chromosome. Haploid number of chromosomes (n) is a characteristic feature of a gamete. Let us denote the whole totality of autosomes by A, one sex chromosome by X, and the other one by Y, then haploid set of chromosomes in gametes is A+X (female gamete - oosphere), or A+Y (mail gamete). In the human and most animal organisms only gametal cells are haploid.
