ATP
Decomposition of organic substances releases a certain amount of energy. Cells do not use this energy immediately for performing a work. First this energy is accumulated in high-energy intermediate compounds - in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), as a rule. ATP consists of adenine (purine compound), ribose (5-carbonaceous sugar) and three molecules of phosphoric acid. Phosphate groups are joined together by high-energy bonds.
