ADP
Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) is the acceptor of high-energy phosphate groups. Breaking of chemical bonds in molecules of nutritives releases a certain amount of energy. Due to formation of phosphodiester bonds this energy is trapped and accumulated in a cell. In fermentation various intermediate products with so called high-energy phosphate bonds are formed. When a high-energy phosphate group joins adenosine diphosphate (ADP), it forms adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
