TELOMERS

Telomer(e) (from the Greek télos - end, and méros - part, segment) is the end section of a chromosome, which prevents the ends of the chromosome from adhesion, and thus, provides maintenance of chromosome integrity.

Telomers consist of long series of short units, which are repeated by tandems and are identified on the ends of linear DNA molecules. All of them can be recorded in a general view as cn(a/t)m, where n > 1, and m takes on a value from 1 to 4. Here a is adenine, g is guanine, c is cytosine, t is tyrosine, (a/t)m means that a or t can occur equifrequently m times in succession.
