ISOMERASES

Isomerases are a family of ferments, which catalyze intramolecular reactions of reorganization of organic compounds, including intermutation of isomers. Isomerases, which transfer some atomic group from one region of a molecule to another, form the class of mutases. They distinguish also the classes of racemases and epimerases. Isomerases are notable for high specifity. They are especially widely occurring in microorganisms. Over 50 isomerases are known.
